There are three lectures below. Listen and take notes. Then, orally summarize them from your notes.
The speaker talked about animals that most people don't realize are extinct because they are often seen in media. The first example given by the speaker was the California Grizzly Bear. He said that most people in a survey thought the bear was still alive, but it has been dead for over 100 years. Moving on to the next example, the speaker said that the Bali Tiger went extinct in 2008, but many people don't realize this because we see many other types of tigers.
The speaker talked about some common myths about Edgar Allen Poe. The first issue the speaker talks about is poverty. Specifically, he says that Poe was an orphan but was adopted and actually made good money. This brings up another myth. Many people thing that Poe only wrote horror stories, but the autohr said actually he wrote many genres.
The speaker talked about what ancient cultures thought about comets. Specifically, he said that ancient cultures usually thought they were bad omens. For example, he said in ancient China, people believed comets meant bad luck, in ancient Greece people believed comets meant someone would die, and ancient Norse people thought comets were evil. The speaker said this is proof that ancient people noticed comets.
